    laptop help

My laptop started acting up and freezing.  I booted with the battery, and Hard Drive out, from a disk, but could still get the system to lock up if I moved the monitor.   Could it possibly be something like the cable is loose, or something "easy"?   It does not always boot from the hard drive, and sometimes the screen just goes to a backlit mode. However, I can not network on to it from my desktop, which tells me the system froze up (or networking doesn't work).  Other times it works ok for  a few minutes then freezes.  It needs a new battery and by the time I buy that, and fix the problem, I can get a laptop that will blow it away for not much more money...... Any suggestions or ideas on easy fixes, or ways to confirm what is wrong?

Also,  if I do get a new laptop,  does anyone have a cable or some way to pull some files off the Hard Drive?

    Re: laptop help

Easiest way to get the files off is to go to Radio Shack and buy the laptop IDE drive USB enclosure.  I think it's only $10, and if you're savvy enough to remove the hard drive from your laptop then you've already done all the hard work...
